The Opportunity

Pioneer Construction is seeking a Civil Construction Superintendent in the Kenora, Ontario area to lead daily field operations across civil construction projects. This hands-on role focuses on coordinating crews, managing site activities, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications. The Superintendent plays a key role in solving on-site challenges, maintaining productivity, and supporting successful project delivery.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Oversee every phase of civil construction projects from inception to completion, working closely with all involved in the project to ensure productivity and efficiency
  • Lead, train and manage on site workforce including the recruiting, hiring and supervising of employees
  • Be the main point of contact between Project Manager, Site Forman and Clients, while attending all relevant meetings to keep everyone informed of project progress
  • Resolve day to day issues that arise with the construction projects while also identifying future challenges with regards to schedule, materials, construction methods etc.
  • Keep an accurate daily diary to ensure time sheets, inspections and work orders are accurate and safety standards are being met
  • Report to daily activities, quantities, extras, changes, ect. that relate to project schedule and payments to Project Manager
  • Work schedule including evenings and weekends when required
  • Largely involved with the monthly preparation of progress payments and schedule updates
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment
  • Work in various weather conditions including inclement weather conditions
  • Work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required to meet operational and project demands
  • Travel to job sites across Northern Ontario, including occasional out-of-town assignments with overnight stays
  • Work in accordance with and enforce all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

You Are a Good Fit If You Have

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Technology, Laboratory Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Civil Construction Industry
  • Prior experience in leadership or managerial roles
  • Possession of a valid G License is required
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork

Considered an Asset:

  • Surface Miner Common Core
  • ACI certification
  • Aggregate and Asphalt CCIL certification

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • In depth understanding of construction methods and practices and a growing knowledge of the safety and quality standards that pertain to the industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, as well as proposals/contracts.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to identify performance gaps, coaching and mentoring crews appropriately to build an efficient team.
  • Strong computer skills, be familiar with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel and Outlook, and Microsoft Project would be an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure work quality and compliance are being appropriately monitored through inspections and observations
  • Ability to perform physically intensive and strenuous tasks when required in accordance with OHSA requirements
  • Excellent communication skills with supervisors, coworkers, and clients
  • Ability to adapt to changing job requirements and schedules
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Professional attitude and strong work ethic

The pay range posted reflects base compensation only. Starting pay is based on skills, experience, and qualifications. Benefits and other incentives are offered separately.
