The Opportunity
Pioneer Construction Inc. is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as a Quality Control Technician in the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario area. This role supports our construction operations through field sampling, laboratory testing, and quality assurance processes to ensure materials and projects meet required specifications, standards, and safety requirements.
Your Day-to-Day
- Operate testing and sampling equipment with an understanding of safe handling and cleaning procedures
- Conduct routine inspections of construction and aggregate materials
- Perform fields tests and laboratory tests to analyze the quality and performance of asphalt and aggregate samples
- Ensure compliance with all facets of Quality Control/Quality Assurance including structures, foundations, asphalt, concrete, grading, granular and electrical.
- Participate in quality control plans and procedures for projects
- Maintain and analyze detailed records of test results, inspections, and quality control processes.
- Ensuring timely delivery of all samples to the applicable laboratories
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment
- Work in various weather conditions including inclement weather conditions
- Work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required to meet operational and project demands
- Travel to job sites across Northern Ontario, including occasional out-of-town assignments with overnight stays
- Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Perform other related duties as assigned
You Are a Good Fit If You Have
Required:
- Relevant post-secondary degree in civil, mining, construction or geotechnical engineering or a combination of experience that is determined to be equivalent is required.
- Possession of a valid G License is required.
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
Considered an Asset:
- ACI certification
- Aggregate and Asphalt CCIL certification
- Prior experience in a laboratory environment or the construction / aggregate of industry
Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of construction materials including asphalt and other aggregates.
- Understanding of testing procedures and standards for various construction materials.
- Ability to extract and compile data into reports
- Strong attention to detail to ensure work quality and compliance are being appropriately monitored through inspections and observations
- Ability to perform physically intensive and strenuous tasks when required in accordance with OHSA requirements
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills with supervisors, coworkers, and clients
- Ability to adapt to changing job requirements and schedules
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Professional attitude and strong work ethic

This position is governed by a collective agreement with Operating Engineers Local 793. The pay range posted reflects base compensation under the applicable agreement. Placement within the range is based on experience, qualifications, and union provisions. Benefits and other incentives are offered separately.
