We are looking for a Civil Engineer Construction Manager based in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. As the Civil Engineer Construction Manager, you will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of civil construction projects. With your attention to detail and strong organizational skills, you will ensure that all construction administration and other construction activities align with the established timelines and budgets. The Civil Engineer Construction Manager is an integral position who, along with construction supervisors, oversees and directs construction projects from conception to completion. The Civil Engineer Construction Manager will also have an important role in the management of our Quality Management System. This is a full-time permanent position available with competitive wages, bonuses and benefits package.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget.
- Preparing and submitting construction project budget estimates.
- Tracking work progress and assisting in preparing progress and final payments.
- Preparing contracts, negotiating revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Developing and implementing quality control programs.
- Overseeing construction sites to monitor compliance with contract specifications and safety regulations.
- Reviewing work progress regularly including planning ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones.
- Analyzing, managing and mitigating risks.
- Preparing progress reports and issuing progress schedules to clients.
- Directing the purchase of materials.
- Hiring and supervising the activities of staff.
- Reinforce compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.
- Implement best practices in project management and engineering.
- Assisting in procuring engineering services when required.
- Facilitating communication and collaboration among project teams.
- Travel to various jobs sites required
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Licensed Professional Civil Engineer or working towards designations such as P. Eng and PMP.
- Prior experience working at a managerial level, including experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
- Prior experience in Civil Construction on Municipal, Ministry or private highway/road infrastructure projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Self-starter who can assist in the growth of this operation of the Company.
- Excellent people skills and strong leadership skills.
- Ability to monitor and review complex project budgets and schedules.
- Ability to plan and see the big picture.
- Ability to work closely and efficiently with Operations Managers and Supervisors.
- Effective verbal, written, presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, project management and scheduling software, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and deal effectively with people using a facilitative approach.
- Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of construction methods and safety practices.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
