PAVING FOREMAN/SUPERVISOR
Pioneer Construction Inc. is looking for candidates interested in joining a dynamic team as a Paving Foreman in the Greater Sudbury area. Our ideal candidate will have a strong ability to coordinate all activities on our projects. The Paving Foreman is a full-time permanent field position which requires directing and monitoring of crews on specific projects.
In this role, you’ll work closely with the project owner’s representatives, Pioneer Superintendent as well as your crews. You’ll get exposure to many parts of the construction industry which will set the stage for a terrific career at Pioneer.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive, prioritize, plan and oversee daily asphalt activities with responsibility for labourers and paving crews, providing real-time guidance and direction.
- Scheduling labour and equipment for asphalt-related work, such as: raking, smoothing and tamping related to the pavement, re-surfacing and repair.
- Communicating with the Asphalt Superintendent to confirm on-site measuring and truck coordination for asphalt supply.
- Ensure work is done safely and established safety practices are strictly followed.
- Administrative duties such as: reviewing and ensuring accurate invoicing, submitting daily work records and reviewing and submitting timesheets.
- Communicate with General Superintendent and/or Senior Managers to keep them informed of any potential performance or operational issues and determine course of corrective action.
- Train and/or coach less experienced operators or labourers on the crew.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Valid Class G License is required
- Highschool Diploma is required
- Construction related post-secondary schooling or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership role in the construction industry, paving experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work any shift including, days, nights, and weekends
- Ability to travel to job sites with overnight stays when required
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints and scopes of work
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Excellent attention to details, as well as strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to identify performance gaps, coaching and mentoring the paving crew to encourage efficiency and team work.
- Ability to adapt to last minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
