Pioneer Construction is looking for a hard-working, self-motivated employee with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Project Coordinator/Estimator to work in the Thunder Bay area. The Project Coordinator/Estimator will require a high level of motivation, professionalism and independence. This is a full-time permanent position available with competitive wages and benefit packages.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality Control:
- Conduct routine inspections of construction materials.
- Perform field tests and laboratory tests to analyze the quality and performance of asphalt and aggregate samples.
- Safely operate testing and sampling equipment.
- Participate in quality control plans and procedures for projects.
- Ensure compliance with all facets of Quality Control/Quality Assurance including structures, foundations, asphalt, concrete, grading, granular and electrical.
- Maintain and analyze detailed records of test results, inspections, and quality control processes.
- Ensuring timely delivery of all samples to the applicable laboratories
- Working in various weather conditions.
Work shifts including evenings and weekends when required. - Travel between sites including overnight stays when required.
- Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
- Must maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment.
- Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Perform related duties as assigned
Planning:
- Follow each phase of the project to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget. This includes managing and tracking project communications; Assist Project Manager with tracking project schedules, as well as being responsible for the submission of deliverables; and Conduct quality control checks on outgoing submissions;
Benchmarking:
- Set benchmarks to monitor progress ensuring the project remains on target to finish on time and within budget. This includes reviewing reports, specifications, and other engineering documents to ensure adherence to quality and document standards;
Estimating:
- Review of contract drawings, specification, quotes at the bidding stage
- Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, contract drawings and specifications
- Quantity take-offs from the contract drawings and specifications (AutoCAD/Excel)
- Prepare an estimate using Bid2Win.
- Prepare and distribute Request for Quotations, solicit quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Complete tender closing and tender submissions.
- Build project schedule and budget.
- Assist field staff with daily tasks.
- Monthly payment certificates to the owner and subcontractors and suppliers
- Develop a quality control plan with the QC manager and monitor compliance.
- Display professionalism toward our company and customers
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards operations,
- maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.
- Ability to work on various mine site properties.
- Required to pass comprehensive pre-access testing that includes but is not limited to a background check, a drug and alcohol screen and fitness for work testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Degree/diploma in engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Project Coordinator/Planner is preferred.
- Recent experience with highway construction projects is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office 365 platform, Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil3D, Bid2Win Estimating Software)
- Surveying experience in layout/as-built.
- Valid Class G driver’s license
- Ability to work full days Monday -Friday and the occasional Saturday as required during the Summer. Night work may be required.
- Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- Abide by all Company policies including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental, Human Resources policies
- Ability to work outside in challenging weather conditions when required.
- Ability to lift 25 kg
