Civil Construction Superintendent

A Superintendent position is a crucial role in Pioneer Construction to ensure quality projects are delivered safely on time and on budget. You will oversee projects from beginning to end while being the contact person between upper management, inspectors and project owners. The candidate should be a team player, who embraces a safety culture with a primary goal of keeping the projects moving. Your office will be in Kenora, ON but majority of the construction season will be spent on project sites Pioneer is currently operating.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee every phase of civil construction projects from inception to completion, working closely with all involved in the project to ensure productivity and efficiency.
  • Lead, train and manage on site workforce including the recruiting, hiring and supervising of employees.
  • Be the main point of contact between Project Manager, Site Forman and Clients, while attending all relevant meetings to keep everyone informed of project progress.
  • Read and understand contract specifications and drawings.
  • Resolve day to day issues that arise with the construction projects while also identifying future challenges with regards to schedule, materials, construction methods etc. so that you and your support team can come up with solutions to keep projects moving forward.
  • Keep an accurate daily diary to ensure time sheets, inspections and work orders are accurate and safety standards are being met.
  • Report to daily activities, quantities, extras, changes, ect. that relate to project schedule and payments to Project Manager.
  • Work schedule including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Largely involved with the monthly preparation of progress payments and schedule updates.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Must maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment, both interior and exterior.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.
  • Perform related duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

  • Valid G Driver’s License is required.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma as a Civil Technologist/Technician is considered an asset.
  • 2 – 5 years’ Experience in Civil Construction.
  • In depth understanding of construction methods and practices and a growing knowledge of the safety and quality standards that pertain to the industry.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, as well as proposals/contracts.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to identify performance gaps, coaching and mentoring crews appropriately to build an efficient team.
  • Must be capable of all physical requirements including working at heights, lifting (up to 50lb), bending, climbing, etc.
  • Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Must have strong computer skills, be familiar with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel and Outlook, and Microsoft Project would be an asset.
  • Ability to take direction and communicate verbally.
  • Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
