Surveyor

Pioneer Construction is looking for a hard-working, self-motivated employee with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Surveyor in the Kenora, ON area. This is a full-time seasonal position that comes with a comprehensive benefits package.

Surveyors shall use different methods of equipment depending on the requirements of the project. Depending on project requirements some include highway layout, stockpiles, property limits and culvert grading. Results are to be reported to their supervisor/manager in a professional format that is concise and simple to review.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Surveying for layout of MTO/Municipal/Commercial projects.
  • Surveying to include collection of pre-existing site conditions to be used for quantity surveying and payment quantities
  • Interpret and extrapolate survey data from construction and design drawings and use data to complete quantities and as-built drawings
  • Asist with office work where required including obtaining all information required to help estimating with making informed scope of work decisions.
  • Read and understand contract documents in detail: tender, specs, drawings, quantity sheets, provisions, Horizontal and Vertical control sheets, highway alignment etc.
  • Highway layout with Trimble GPS equipment including:
    • Offset staking
    • Layout of work limits
    • Construction grade surveying and verification
  • Utilize laser level or GPS for culvert replacements and frost heaves
  • Gather stockpile quantities with Trimble GPS equipment
  • Use Civil3D to import measured data from GPS to create drawings for:
    • Stockpiles
    • Pit Plans
    • Volume Measurements
    • Provide reports of measurements to managers
  • Stake out and flag property limits and cut lines
  • Summarize calculations and results professional in excel sheets or similar type of data bases

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

  • Must possess a valid G Drivers License
  • A civil engineering or survey background is considered an asset
  • 2+ years of experience in field surveying or data collection
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of field surveying including construction layouts predominantly for civil construction
  • Proficient knowledge of survey theory, GPS technology and specifically RTK and Total Station equipment
  • Practical knowledge of Trimble Business Centre, AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Lesser qualified candidates will be considered

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be capable of all physical requirements including working at heights, lifting (up to 50lb), bending, climbing, etc.
  • Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Experience in the construction industry is considered an asset
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be willing to travel to job sites with occasional overnight stays when required
  • Seasonal positions available with the opportunity for overtime
